Veterinarization of Society? Care and Control Beyond Animal Health

Three ERC BOAR team members (Ludek Broz, Kieran O’Mahony and Marianna Szczygielska) are very excited to organise a workshop in the Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences on March 11-12, 2024. This workshop was a key stage in the production of Special Issue for Medical Anthropology journal, entitled “Veterinarization of Society? Care and Control Beyond Animal Health”. It brought together seven contributors to the Special Issue who critically engage with the novel concept of ‘veterinarization’ and consider its usefulness, value, and limits. Whether focusing on health concerns relating to livestock, food, wildlife, or street animals and pets, the contributors explore how the veterinary influences our daily lives, (state) institutions, global economies, and local ecologies. Over two days at the workshop, the contributors discussed their papers and responded to feedback from their co-contributors and the editors.
